Moving Beyond the Shockwave of AI in Healthcare: Key Takeaways from HIMSS 2025

HIMSS25 made it clear—AI in healthcare has reached a turning point, and CodaMetrix was at the center of the conversation. As an exhibitor, we made a big splash, connecting with industry leaders and sharing firsthand how the focus has shifted from AI hype to real-world application. While consumer AI adoption has skyrocketed, healthcare organizations are still navigating the path to seamless integration. The initial “shockwave” of AI’s potential has settled, leaving a pressing question: How do health systems integrate disruptive technology into an industry built on legacy workflows?

“AI is so promising for healthcare, for our workforce and teams,” Dr. Irene Louh said in a Day 1 panel. “The core of the healthcare provider is that we want to care for our patients and really improve patient health. Over time, healthcare has made it more difficult because of the structure and function, so any way we can really relieve that burden, is important; there are a lot of opportunities to leverage AI, so this is a really exciting time to be in healthcare and healthcare IT.” 1

But even as AI tools continue to make their way into healthcare, thought leaders noted healthcare professionals are still getting comfortable, with many only just beginning to explore its potential—despite the fact that “shadow usage” of AI tools, or unsanctioned generative AI use outside IT governance, is already occurring behind the scenes in various areas. While the usage of AI in healthcare is likely inevitable, the true hurdle lies in health systems finding an AI platform that they can trust—one that will scale with their business needs.

“Summarizing 1,000 pages of a patient’s history into one paragraph is great—but only if that summary is accurate, unbiased, and properly cited,” Dr. Peter Clardy, Senior Clinical Specialist at Google said. “If we can’t show the source of the information, how can a provider trust it?” 2

It’s clear the need for robust data governance will grow. With more AI usage comes more data, and health systems must ensure their data governance, transformation, and platform strategies are up to the task. Effectively managing and wrangling data into high-quality model inputs will be critical as AI becomes further embedded in healthcare operations and as trust builds in those solutions. Last week also showed that in today’s competitive AI landscape, ROI has become the key differentiator. Healthcare organizations are seeking solutions that don’t just promise innovation but deliver tangible results—improving efficiency, reducing administrative burden, and enhancing patient outcomes. The organizations that will thrive are those that prove their AI solutions are valuable, reliable, and results-oriented. With so many options available, health systems want to ensure they partner with those who have a proven track record and a clear understanding of their unique needs.

"The challenge in healthcare AI isn't just about adopting the latest-and-greatest model—it's about impact in real-world results.” CodaMetrix CTO Chris Gervais remarked. “Many AI solutions promise transformation, but the value measurement, not the tech, is what counts. At CodaMetrix, we focus on outcomes. Our platform isn't just another tool; it’s a proven solution that automates complex coding workflows, reduces administrative burden, and improves financial performance. Health systems don't have enough time to chase hype—they need solutions that augment their operations from day one and can scale up with their complexity to deliver real ROI."

The bottom line? The future of AI in healthcare lies in its ability to deliver measurable ROI, while building trust and ensuring transparency in its implementation. While the AI revolution is well underway, there's still a long road ahead to ensure healthcare organizations can harness its full potential. Ready to take the next step in your AI journey?
